Dr. Héctor Morales Díaz Scholarships

    Verdesfera Web Site promotes, manages and actualises Dr. Héctor Morales Díaz scholarships in Public
    Health with the development of the Cluster of Public Health in Quetzaltenango.  The department of
    Quetzaltenango counts full-featured to develop an important Cluster in Public Health to national and
    international level, since it includes natural centers and scenes for the Mayan traditional medicine, the
    alternative and the scientist.

    Dr. Héctor Morales Díaz (1913-1984)

    Among its main achievements are the development of the legislation for the rural practices - present E.P.S. -;
    the Law of the Social Insurance - legal frame of the IGSS -, Dean of the Medicine Faculty of the USAC and
    President of the School of Doctors by two consecutive periods. One specialized in the University of Harvard
    (Gastroscopy), John Hopkins (Radiology), Tulane (Tropical Epidemiology and Diseases) and Pennsylvania
    under the support of Dr. Bockus, becoming the first Gastroenterologist of Guatemala .

    Verdesfera

    Our mission at Verdesfera is the eradication of the Extreme Poverty, Analysis of the Cluster of Health and
    education in Public Health of the Department of Quetzaltenango. The programs focus towards the
    eradication of the extreme poverty of Quetzaltenango through health programs.

    Verdesfera is designed to improve the quantity and quality of life in poor communities. For life we understand
    humane and ecological; for this purpose it is divided in three areas:

  1.   recreational outdoor activities,
  2.  public health (with strength in primary and secondary health)
  3.  and ecology (with strength in the water issue).

    The work will include:

  •  acquiring spaces in the social communication media (Internet, TV- Cable, radio, newspaper and
     alternative media) and producing information.

  •  going to poor communities with health- ecological- recreational campaigns and organizing various
     associations.

  •  enhancing the health- ecological- recreational services through professional development,

  •  joining the international development community.
